Commissioning

|
Desmond Fountain is available for commissions, in sculpture and other media—including oil, water-colour, pastel and etchings; however due to the large demand for his time, there is a procedure to follow before any discussion can take place. Bearing in mind, when sculpting, he prefers to work from life and this does take some time. Due to a busy schedule, "sittings" are organised well in advance, with a deposit placed to reserve sculpting time, once the commission is agreed. Desmond Fountain reserves the right to the ultimate decisions of how he interprets the subject matter in order to maintain his unique approach. But this is always with collaboration in order to maximise his ability to capture not only physical likeness, but also the character of the sitter. The process is not mechanical in the slightest, and the rapport between sculptor and model is a very important aspect of getting the best result. TERMS AND CONDITIONSREGISTRATION FEEA registration fee of $100 will be required for those commission enquiries that he is able to consider and enter into discussion about. DEPOSITWhen the sculptor agrees to schedule a commission, a down payment is due. This is a third of the estimated cost and is based on a ballpark amount and does not take into account any pose, attire or accoutrements that might be introduced whilst the sculpture is in progress. The finished price is based on production costs. It is impossible to predict accurately what a foundry will charge for an, as yet, unformed idea. SECOND INSTALMENTThe second payment is due when the sculpture is ready to leave the studio and go to the chosen foundry, by which time a better idea of its final cost will be available. FINAL BALANCEThe final payment is due when the sculpture is due to leave the foundry, at which time all production costs will be available. The foundries reserve the right to adjust their estimate if they have quoted too low. Unique sculptures are possible, but represent much higher costs than equivalent edition works. With sculptures destined to be editions, the final say on any pose remains the right of the artist, as the sculpture will become part of the portfolio of works. The sculptor retains the copyright on all works. THE DESMOND FOUNTAIN STUDIOPO BOX FL317 Flatts FLBX Bermuda The Desmond Fountain Studio is strictly by appointment only. |
